The truth is no computer is safe from viruses and bugs, but there are steps we can take to make sure we do not get any infections on our computers.
First of all I recommend a free but good anti-virus called Avast. Avast is a very light weight program that gets the job done. You can get Avast at www.avast.com
A couple preventive measures you can take to avoid getting a virus or infection on your computer are the following.
1) Attend a user awareness class - you have to be aware of what is out there. If you aren't aware of the bad things that can happen to your system while on the internet, I recommend a class.
2) Avoid dangerous sites and software - usually you can tell when a website is no good, it usually has a bunch of pop ups everywhere and external links to places. Avoid those at all cost.
3) Keep your anti-virus up to date - Most of the time when someone brings me a computer their anti-virus is out of date. If the anti-virus is not updated it does recognize new viruses or how to handle them.
4) Keep your windows updates current- Windows is also fighting against cyber criminals, every now and then they will send you updates for security features.
There are many precautions we can take to avoid viruses on the internet. Refer to the information above to increase your knowledge on internet safety.
